TRX 500 Transmission
TRX 500 transmission with a noisy 1st gear. Two Honda shops confirm they believe it is a 1st gear bearing. No other gears have noise and seem fine. Tranny operates fine just noisy in 1st. Honda says exchange the transmission for approx $2500.
Can this transmission be disassembled and repaired in the field by a competent mechanic or is this too specialized as far as what it takes to get it assembled correctly after bearing replacement? Any help or comment would be appreciated.
Has about 1200 miles on it but has not been abused or neglected. Fluid not low or contaminated. Has had normal service performed. 2004 Rubicon.
